Las Vegas Gingivitis

Gingivitis. You’ve probably heard the word, but do you know what it is? Most people have no idea what gingivitis is, yet they may already have this gum disease and don’t even know it. Gingivitis is an inflammation that happens in your gums that’s generally caused by a bacterial infection. If you don’t have regular dental checkups and find this problem early, Las Vegas gingivitis can turn into periodontal disease, which is the more serious version.

The best thing about Las Vegas gingivitis is that it’s completely avoidable. Regular brushing and flossing on a daily basis is all that’s necessary to get rid of the main culprit that causes the problem – bacteria. When you eat or drink just about anything, it causes bacteria to grow in your mouth. That bacteria attaches to your teeth and forms dental plaque. If you remove that bacteria by brushing after meals, you’ll be able to avoid plaque from forming. And once you have plaque, you can still remove it yourself by brushing and flossing and even using a mouth rinse to be sure you get rid of all the possible bacteria.

When Las Vegas gingivitis really goes bad is when it turns into plaque and you don’t address that problem. If you allow plaque to harden, it turns into tartar and that’s something you can’t remove yourself. Once you have tartar on your teeth and especially around the gum line, you’ll need to visit Dr. Moore and the dental hygienist staff at Moore Family Dentistry to have the tartar removed. Taking care of your teeth and gums with good dental hygiene can help avoid gingivitis and all the other complications it can bring. Brushing and flossing at least twice a day can help keep your teeth and breath fresh and clean. Be sure to call our Las Vegas dental office at 702-791-1010 or our Summer line office at 702-254-6700 to schedule regular dental checkups for your entire family.
